What you can do this Friday night? With this weather, perhaps you’ll have to wait to next time to party the ice, but how about some poetry or dance on this rainy Friday evening?

The monthly Toronto Poetry Slam is happening at the Drake Hotel Underground (1150 Queen Street W.) today, starting at 8:00 pm. For $5, you’ll get a night of in raw, your face poetry like no other. If you’re not familiar with poetry slam, and you have this image of a mild mannered, slouchy man with a beard reading softly into the microphone, then you’ve got the wrong idea. Poetry slam is more like stand-up comedy, on crack, but far more eloquent and intense, and not all comedy.

For those of you who’d rather dance than listen, Modernboys Moderngirls are treating you to (in their words) “audio porn” and an “indie rock dance party.” This is happening at the Rivoli, 334 Queen Street W, doors at 9pm, $6 cover.

Get out and have yourselves a dangerous Friday night!
