Lunar Eclipse

There’s a lunar eclipse on this night of Saturday, March 3, 2007, and supposed to be quite spectacular, even among lunar eclipses. During a lunar eclipse the moon goes from a reddish hue, to dark to a reddish hue again. The reddish hue is due to the refractive effects of the earth’s atmosphere which cause the red light from the sun to bend around the earth.

Unfortunately it doesn’t look like the weather will co-operate, but it’s still worth a shot to try and see the eclipse. Due to the position of Toronto we will not be able to see the first part of the eclipse, i.e when the moon first gets the reddish hue. However, we should be able to see the moon going from dark to red at around 8:10 in the evening. About 80% of the moon’s visible surface is expected to be affected by the eclipse.
