Record Shops #2: She Said Boom!
April 23rd, 2007 by GrahamSo I wrote a review of Rotate This awhile back with the intention of writing many more over subsequent weeks… but then thesis and term projects got in the way and it never happened. Over the next few days (before i move to vancouver) i’m going to resume said reviews and, maybe post a few of my favorite other things about this great city.
First though… the review of She Said Boom!
She said boom! is an awesome little shop that can be found on College between Spadina and Bathurst and also down on Roncesvalles. It’s half used bookstore, half music + dvd store.
Even though the shop is small every time i go in i’m stuck there for more than awhile… first is browsing the limited, but always solid selection of new used cds. They’re a little pricey at $10 or $11 (and $20 for double CDs) but full of great finds.
Second is the discount cd shelf… full of CDs that cost $2.50 (or something like that)… I don’t think i’ve ever pulled one out to buy, but there’s been the odd nostalgic cd that has tempted me more than a little.
Third… I always browse the books, the collection is pretty solid and full of great reads fiction and non-fiction.
Finally the visit is closed out by browsing through the regular CD+ DVD collections looking for some solid used finds that managed to slip through the “new used cd” section, or just new cds by a few select groups.
I invariably walk out with something new (or more likely… used) in my hands and loving this little shop, that has become one of my favorites, even more.
Rating: 4/5… the selection might be limited but its pretty high quality… plus its just plain fun to visit.
