Career Information Days

September 17th, 2007 by

If you are considering joining the *gasp* world of work anytime soon, you might want to consider attending one of the Career Information Days (CID) next week. CID is the largest annual career fair at the University of Toronto. This event is a great opportunity to meet and network with representatives from over 100 top organizations as well as to find out what the job market is like, if not to get a job or internship.

Last week I attended a workshop at the Career Centre to help prepare for this. Unfortunately there aren’t anymore of them going on but you can find a lot of the same information I learned there on the Career Center website. The most important thing that I picked up from it was to practice doing a 30-second introduction!

P.S. I’m told that it will be very loud, busy and warm so don’t go wearing a thick sweater or anything :)

The only reason I go to the career fair is to get free stuff. Stuff like envelope openers, CD cleaners, fridge magnets and all sorts of junk I don’t need.

Also, don’t be a chump and line up at the front door. There’s a side door to UC near Hart House. Enter through there, go up the stairs, and you’re right in the middle of the action. And you didn’t hear this from me.

Ah, no wonder arts students can get a job that doesn’t starve them.

Are there fairs for arts jobs?

  3. Lori Says:

Not during this job fair but otherwise I am not sure.

    RE: arts students

I volunteered at one of these fairs before and it’s disappointing that they still have little to nothing for arts students. The same goes for the ‘graduating students’ program the career center had which only had events for engineering and business students :|

Gloria, try checking out the workshops at the career center which sometimes has arts related panels where you can ask questions and network with people in the industry if they don’t leave right after.

    So…there is free stuff?

Howdy. To start with I would like to say that I genuinely like your blog, just identified it last week but I have been following it ever since then.

I look to concur with most of the ideas and opinions and this post is no different. absolutely agree with you.

Thank you to get a good website and I hope you preserve up the excellent function. If you do I will keep on to read it.

    Have a good evening.
