FREE WINE – Summerhill Ontario Wine Fair

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

wine.jpg Most free food events on campus are pretty much the same. Primarily they involve crappy pizza which appears to have been made from the boxes it comes in. If you’re lucky you might find free burgers or hot dogs. Which is all fine; I mean, it’s free right?

But free alcohol is a rarity and should be treasured whenever you can find it. And there might be some this weekend. Specifically, this weekend (Friday Sept. 14 – Sunday Sept. 16) there is a wine fair at the LCBO in Summerhill. The event listings mentions that the event is free, and that participants will be able to sample wines. In a seperate paragraph it is mentioned that there will be opportunites to pair the wines with food prepared on the spot. It’s all a little ambigious, but I suspect that if you go you’ll be able to get free samples of wine while having to pay for anything more substantial. Which, after all, means that you can get free wine.

Screen shot from the movie Weirdsville… looks pretty weird huh?

The school year has started, and CINSSU has started their screenings of free films. There are two special previews this week and also the regular Free Friday Film. It’s a good idea to get the free passes for the special previews (you can still get in without a pass if you get there and line up early enough). The best way to find out when there’s passes up for grabs is to join the CINSSU Group on Facebook.

Time to (re)Visit the ROM

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

michael_lee_chin_crystal_1.jpg

Even though $20 to see a soul-sucking, decrepit mummy is cheap in my eyes, it does tend to add up with all the other expenses in our lives (ie. tuition).

That’s why it’s great to see that the ROM has temporarily cut their prices:

Batty for the Bat Cave? Crazy for all things Medieval? From September 4 to October 5, 2007 the ROM is offering $5 off admission for all visitors. This is the best time to see your favourites at a specially reduced rate, as we prepare the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal galleries for A Season of Canada and new permanent galleries. Also included with your admission during this time period is a $5 off coupon for your next visit, valid from October 6, 2007 to March 7, 2008.

Keep in mind that the ROM is also FREE for the last hour and a half of every day. That may be just enough time to get your mummy-fix.

When: September 4 to October 5, 2007
Where: North-West corner of Bloor and Avenue
Details: $12 for students OR FREE (during the last hour and a half of the day)
