If you missed out on the Hart House Wide Open House, then you might as well move to Antarctica and have Morgan Freeman narrate your life (bad movie pun). The Open House was beautifully organized chaos. At the heart of its complexity and diverse nature there was a radiating source of beauty and vibrancy.

There was live music, food, free prizes, beautiful people and a BUTTON MAKING CLASS! What else can the human soul long for? Oh and did I mention they had an awesome mini club fair?

For those of you who missed the event, I shall try my hardest to embody its pulsating atmosphere in this article.

MOVE OVER Martha,  Hart House is the new party hostess. With great free stuff,  food, entertainment and activities the Hart House Wide Open House was a success!

Sit back and relax as I take you through the Open House:

Upon entrance you are offered a free tour and warm greetings from the Hart House Crew. You are overwhelmed by the architecture of the building and the smell of burning sugar. A polite vendor offers you hot pink cotton candy as you walk into the FREE button-making class. At the button making class you sit and create cute pins for you and your friends.

The enchanting sound of Run With the Kittens lures you from the button making class and outside. You indulge yourself into the humbling sound of intelligent conversation, light humour and positivity. The scorching fires of the BBQ steal you from the entertainment and succumb to the power of carbs and greasy goodness.

Your feet dance their way back inside as you approach a mini club fair. There you meet the kind gentlemen of the Hart House Debate Team. Their powerful persuasion techniques and promising tales of improvement convince you to sign up (with no regards to your lack of skills).

“Hark! Who comes yonder?” A knight from the Hart House Chess Club challenges you to a duel. You lose shamelessly. Fancy another try? Sign up for their club; if you can’t beat them, join them.

After your loss, you seek to create an army to redeem yourself. Ironically, you stumble upon the Hart House Archery Club. They teach you the secrets of their trade and in return you offer them your membership.

Ronna Bloom offers you words of wisdom for 1 dollar (for a charitable cause) and you ask her to write a poem about your favourite topic. Ours, of course, is blogUT!

She writes:

Cheap stuff!
check out the blog
the blog, the one and only blog
it’s blogUT
a place, a home, a resting zone
but we are busy
we are finding things to tell you: check it out
we know what to do and where to eat
where to meet down the street
we’re your go-to blog cause we have the meat
(but for vegetarians we’ll get you beets)
but seriously folks
come back and see us
student life is here

Other clubs included the Hart House Film Board, Chorus, Underwater Club, and more.

Drunk of hunger you stumble upon a feast fit for a king, complete with sandwiches, ice cream, apples. You surrender to your human instincts and enjoy the taste of the mini ice cream sandwich.

After spending the rest of the afternoon dancing, laughing and relaxing, you leave the party with one HELL OF A STORY.
