Saints Alive! is Hilarious and Endearing

October 16th, 2009 by

In my honest opinion, Saints Alive! is one of the best student productions I have ever seen! I laughed almost the entire time and the music was stuck in my head even after the performance. The performers were so talented and, in, addition to acting, sung marvelously as well. Each actor had his or her own unique quirkiness and charm. The piano accompaniment was solid and lively and the musical numbers were choreographed well; not a single note was off tune (to me, anyway, the tone-deaf girl).

The actors were so well versed in their dialogue, as any actor should be, I kept thinking to myself, How could they possibly remember all those lines and lyrics? They pulled off such a grandiose play with ease.

I was impressed by

  • the female and male chorus’ hilarious reactions (i.e. unified sigh) and excellently choreographed musical numbers
  • Alyssa Hauer and Irene Theocaris as Priscilla and Ermyntrude respectively, and their seductive ways
  • Christie Bates as the manipulative, yet wonderfully charming Hester
  • Chris Pugh as the Statue of Bishop Strachan, posing there decked out in green spray paint and a costume
  • Robin Buller as the confident yet rebellious Louella
  • Gavin Douglas as the comical Shortbread and his attempt to sing like a girl
  • Will Jennings as the classic British gentleman with both charm and wit
  • Jenny Holobow, as the Dean of Women, and her hilarious interpretation of a strict no-nonsense older woman
  • Mark Harris as the mischievous and silly Treebear
  • Clara Rozee as the spunky, tom-boyish and fiery Chloe

Catch a show while it is still playing at the George Ignatieff Theatre on October 16th and 17th at 8pm. To get tickets contact either the Trinity College Dramatic Society at trinity [dot] dramatic [dot] society [at] gmail [dot] com to reserve tickets or just buy them at the door. It is only $5 for Trinity students, $8 for other students and $15 for general admission.
