TTC = Terrible Toronto Commute

January 2nd, 2010 by

Oh I hate the TTC and its countless, lazy and overpaid employees too! If you read my previous blog, which you probably haven’t, then you’ll know what I mean.

Reasons:

1) The Service stinks: I think this pretty much says it all. They’re slow, break down and there are constant delays. I especially hate it when I wait ages for a bus and then suddenly pack of them come along. What’s worse, is when they’re all express and I’m at a local stop.

2) Employees are overpaid: Read this. I don’t care how hard or long this man worked; working in a ticket booth does not warrant $100 000. Don’t get me wrong though, it’s not him I’m mad at. If I were him I’d do the exact same thing. Money is money.

3) Employees are so lazy sometimes: I have had so many incidents where the driver would take a break on the job to either, stop and read the newspaper, have a cigarette, talk to random strangers or have a coffee etc. Seriously, can’t you wait til you get to the station? Also while you’re at the station, do you mind not taking hour long breaks?

4)  Employees are just plain rude sometimes: Hello!!! Customer First! We don’t pay all that money for such crappy service just to have you bark at us when we do simple things like buying your lame overpriced tickets.

5) It’s not worth my $3 (or whatever it will be in the future as I’m sure you’ll just raise the price again): We’re officially the 6th most expensive public transit in the world!

6) Calling yourself “the rocket”: You are not “The Rocket”.

There are more reasons that I can’t quite put into words. Also, just to be clear, I say “sometimes” for reason 3 and 4 because there are some nice TTC employees who I do think work very hard but again I think they’re overpaid.

    I don’t completely agree with 2) and 3). I think that if you work overtime then you should be paid for it accordingly. I also think that it is a bit harsh to say that the employees are lazy.

    I understand, but it’s not the fact that he worked overtime that’s really the issue, it’s the fact that he’s being paid too much for the type of work he’s doing. Now if he was a doctor of some sort then perhaps I’d see why he deserves that $100 000. They’re being paid a significant amount for doing something others could easily and be very willing to do as well. I come from a blue-collar family who work their butts off at least 50-60 hours a week and still get paid less than minimum wage and they’re now in their 50s nearing their 60s. It’s not fair in my eyes that my parents have to slave all day while some worker can just sit in their chair and collect tickets but be paid triple the amount my parents get.

    Agree with most said above. Would like to add that the subway with its constant delays and emergency stops is not a transportation, but a joke. The only thing sure about the subway is that it is going to have a problem at least once a week. Another ugly thing about TTC’s management is the way they react to criticism. For example their response to people fainting in the trains during one of the delays was: “they have to have breakfast in the morning”. This is pathetic.

    TTC is really the Terribble Toronto Commute!

    ahhh you couldnt have put this up more timely (or perhaps i couldnt have read it at a better time?!)- this is true. However, I dont think TTC employees are mean/lazy at all (some of them let me on and told me i didnt have to pay fare :D how nice…i do buy a metropass tho…but sitll thought that counts, amirite?)
    ANYWAY- the ttc is so delayed, ALL THE TIME. i understand shit happens but when im UNDERGROUND and they say something about inclement weather, one has to think- we live in canada if ur not prepared for the snow every year than well you’re an idiot!!

    Why have employees at all? The subways should be automated? We have 2 people per train!!! WTF? One to drive (go, stop, go, stop) one to open and close the doors (open, close, open, close). I think I could get a monkey to do this better. And ticket windows? Why can’t we buy from an automatic ticket machine? If I want to talk to a person I’ll go to the nearest corner store instead where they have TTC passes and real customer service. I could go on all day but I wanted to stick to how TTC employees should be better allocated to upgrading the system or cleaning it or something that computers cannot do.
